Letters from Diaspora in Support of Nareg Hartounian
"I would like to express my outrage at the imprisonment of Nareg Hartounian. I have known him and his family for over ten years and they are pillars of the Armenian-American community in New Jersey.
Their impeccable record of honest and fair business practices speaks for itself. His imprisonment is egregiously unjust and sets a negative precedent for Diasporan Armenians wishing to continue or initiate their efforts to help their Armenian brethren.
I would like this decision reconsidered and this innocent man released from prison; otherwise, Armenians in the Homeland can anticipate a significant decline in future assistance from their Diasporan counterparts".
Dr. Nora Tossounian
"When the "so called" authorities decided to put Nareg Hartounian in jail, they let the geni out of the bottle! Now there is no stopping the exposure of the Armenian government for its tolerance of pervasive corruption and lawlessness at all levels of Armenia's society.
Such bullying tactics have already stripped Armenia's own citizens of any hope for justice. Now these dark forces have nobody left to victimize but completely innocent and unsuspecting diasporans like Nareg and his family.
At the same time, the humanitarian work and charitable deeds of Nareg and his upstanding Armenian-American family have not gone unnoticed by the numerous citizens who benefit. This outrageous act of incarceration on totally false charges may well be the catalyst that will inspire all Armenians to rise up and say enough.
If rule of law is not working in Armenia, it is only a matter of time that we will look back in regret".
Gadarina
"I was shocked to hear that my friend, Nareg Baghdasarian, has been jailed in Armenia.
I have known Nareg and the Hartounian family for years, and it is incomprehensible that
anyone from that illustrious family could do anything to warrant being jailed. For years
they have be philanthropic donors to so many causes in Armenia and Artsakh.
I ask for his immediate release for I will find it difficult to speak positively about Armenia
and its judicial system when many people ask me what is happening there".
