Arzumanyan, Sirounyan Trial Continues

29_04-marti-1At today's trial session of the Alexander Arzumanyan and Suren Sirounyan criminal case at the Kentron and Nork-Marash District Court, the examination of the documentary evidence continued. In particular, various segments of video tape capturing events of March 1, 2008, in the proximity of Myasnikyan Statue were reviewed. One of the clips shows the demonstrators calmly participating in the peaceful rally. A second shows some military equipment that had been called into the square. Still another portrays the demonstration organizers calling on the crowd to remain calm. A fourth video clip shows the organizers urging the crowd to "organize self-defense measures" and to use "whatever is at hand", etc. Prior to this, Alexander Arzumanyan's defense attorney, Liparit Simonyan, motioned the court to remove certain documents presented in court yesterday regarding the on-site examination of a publicized event from the evidentiary record. He argued that they contained details not pertinent to the case. "For example, Avag Gasparyan-Ashot Arakelyan, Hayk Avetisyan-Levon Grigoryan, Hakob Belichkov-Alina Kholyunts, assistant examiners participated in more than one on-site investigation, which is not permitted under the law. Furthermore, the second and third pair, according to the criminal case records, show that they participated in different investigations at the same time, which is totally impossible," attorney Simonyan stated. Judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan postponed the examination of the motion until an investigation of the evidence had been concluded. The trial was recessed for ten minutes.
