
The case of Vahagn Chakhalyan, head of the "United Javakhk" alliance, and his family members continued yesterday and today at the Akhaltskha district court.
At yesterday's session concluding statements were made by the prosecution and the defense. Mr. Chakhalyan also adddressed the court today and after a motion by his lawyer, Stepan Voskanyan, the defendant was allowed to read his statement in full.
The prosecution called for a sentence of 14 years and a fine of 18,000 Georgian lari for Vahagn Chakhalyan. The prosecution called on the court to hand down a sentence of 4 years and a 6,000 lari fine for his father, Ruben Chakhalyan, and a 3,000 lari fine for his younger brother Armen.
The defense then motioned the court to acquit the accused and stop the criminal proceedings against them.
The judge then retired to chambers in order to arrive at a verdict.
