"March 1st Seven" Trial Postponed Till April 1st
The trial of the "March 1st Seven" taking place at the Yerevan Kentron and Nork-Marash Jurisdictional Court has been recessed until April 1.
Prosecutor Koryun Piloyan, taking into account that on March 20 President Sargsyan signed into law a bill passed by the RoA National Assembly permitting changes to Articles 225 and 300 of the Criminal Code, motioned that the court should allow the prosecution time to review the modifications as they impact on the ongoing trial.
Defense lawyer Liparit Sininyan attempted to oppose the motion of the proescutor but the presiding judge disregarded the complaint. Furthermore, defendent Alexander Arzumanyan demanded that the court set the accused free since the articles on which basis they were origiannly arrested no longer exist. "According to the statutes now in force, I no longer see any basis to hold us any longer," he claimed.
Myasnik Malkhasyan proposed that the manner of detention be changed and that the defendents should be let go, after which the changes and new charges could be reviewed. The judge refused to consider any of these motions and immediately recessed the trial until April 1.
Present at today's trial session were Alexander Arzumanyan, Myasnik Malkhasyan, Sasoun Mikayelyan, Hakob Hakobyan and Souren Sirounyan. The court sanction against Grigor Voskerchyan ends as of tomorrow.
