9 Year-Old Eric to Santa: “Please help my mother get well”
42 year-old Ashkhen Mkrtchyan is battling cirrhosis of the liver and her son Eric is right by her side, offering all the moral support he can muster.
Mother and son live in the Armenian town of Ashtarak.
While Ashkhen has received periodic treatment at Yerevan’s Infectious Disease Hospital, she hasn’t been able to make the trip to Armenia’s capital for the past seven months.
“Every trip costs 150,000 Dram and I just don’t have that kind of money,” Ashkhen says.
Recently, the disease has gotten worse and Ashkhen has been diagnosed with ascites (fluid retention in the abdominal cavity).
This year, nine year-old Eric’s only wish from Santa was that his mother gets well.
