Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has announced that he will soon meet with Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ararat Mirzoyan.

Mirzoyan’s office today confirmed that an agreement has been reached to hold the meeting but did not provide a date for the meeting,

Bayramov told Azerbaijan’s APA news agency that he and Mirzoyan discussed several issues when they met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan earlier this month.

On border demarcation, Bayramov told APA Azerbaijan and Armenia have agreed to begin work at the Armenia-Georgia-Azerbaijan border junction and proceed from north to south, starting with the most difficult northern section.

Bayramov said that Azerbaijan’s demarcation commission is headed by Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev, and Armenia’s is led by Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan.

Bayramov said restoration work on the railway in Nakhichevan has begun and that international partners are interested in joining the project. He also said talks on the TRIPP project are mainly between the US and Armenia, but no project can move forward without Baku’s involvement.

“This is natural because the project cannot be implemented without Azerbaijan’s participation. The American side tells us work is continuing, though physical work has been postponed until 2027. We believe the sooner the project is implemented, the better, as it will benefit Azerbaijan, Armenia, and other countries in the region,” he said.
