First Lady? Anna Hakobyan On a Business Trip to U.S. as PM Pashinyan’s Wife
Anna Hakobyan’s marital relationship with Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan is back in the news following Pashinyan decision to send her on an all-expense paid nine day trip to New York later this month to attend the fourth annual Global First Ladies Academy.
The Academy brings together first ladies and leading industry experts from around the world to develop leadership skills, strengthen public diplomacy and dialogue on global issues.
Hakobyan, in a February 17, 2026 Facebook post, announced that she had ended her thirty-year common law marriage with Pashinyan. “I ask everyone to be discreet and correct on this topic.” Hakobyan wrote. The couple has four children, with their oldest born in 1998.
Following this announcement, many believed it was about the end of the unregistered marriage, and that two had legally recorded their marriage and congratulated them on the occasion.
Hakobyan later said she was leaving the government residence for rented accommodation, noting she owns no property as her purchased apartment is still under construction
Hakobyan and Pashinyan have been together for about thirty years, but they never officially registered their marriage in a church or through civil authorities, something that Pashinyan confirmed in 2024.
Hakobyan’s post was followed by a post by Pashinyan in which he stated that he treats her decision with respect.
Hakobyan did not rule out that she could be subject to criminal liability. "That's life. Maybe such a development is possible, no matter what we do, we'll live, we'll see," she said.
On April 23, 2026, at a briefing with journalists, Pashinyan announced that he was making efforts to preserve his family and was happy that he had another chance.
