Strong Armenia Wants Electoral Commission to Invalidate June 7 Election Results

The Strong Armenia alliance today applied to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) to invalidate the June 7 election results, claiming widespread electoral fraud.

The alliance, headed by billionaire Samvel Karapetyan, came in second to Pashinyan’s Civil Contract party.

Narek Karapetyan, Samvel Karapetyan’s nephew, said Strong Armenia will formally ask the CEC on Friday to annul the election results and review the ruling party’s vote count. He added that the bloc will appeal to the Constitutional Court if the CEC rejects the request.

The Armenia (Hayastan) alliance, led by former President Robert Kocharyan, has also said it will challenge the CEC vote count in court. It said it was severely affected by widespread government pressure, arrests of opposition figures, unprecedented use of administrative resources, and other electoral violations.
