Russia Suspends Sales of Armenian Mineral Water Amid Rising Tensions with Yerevan
Russia has halted sales of Armenian mineral water, its consumer safety agency said Friday, in the latest temporary restriction as tensions between Moscow and Yerevan continue to rise.
The ban, which Rospotrebnadzor, the consumer safety agency said was introduced over health concerns, will affect 64.5 million units of Jermuk water.
The order to block new batches of Armenian mineral water is valid from May 28, 2026 until further notice,
On May 28, the agency also announced that it will impose temporary restrictions on the import of fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, greens and strawberries of Armenian origin from May 30, 2026. The restriction will be in effect until the development of an appropriate algorithm to ensure the safety of the delivered products.
Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov yesterday announced that the issue of Armenia's participation in the Eurasian Economic Union will be discussed at the EAEU summit to be held in Astana on May 29.
Armenia officially joined the Eurasian Economic Union in January 2015. In recent years, Armenia has floated the idea of possibly joining the European Union, but Russian officials regularly note that Yerevan cannot be in both unions at the same time.
