Court Grants House Arrest to Jailed Bishop

A court in Armenia has granted jailed Bishop Mkrtich Proshyan, Primate of the Aragatsotn Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, house arrest, his lawyer Ara Zohrabyan announced today.

Proshyan, a nephew of Catholicos Karekin II, was arrested in October 2025 and charged with obstructing the electoral rights of citizens and coercing participation in political rallies.

The bishop has denied any wrongdoing.
