Davos: Aliyev, Trump Tout Improved Relations
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and U.S. President Donald Trump met today on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
According to Aliyev’s press service, both leaders expressed their satisfaction with the progress in relations between Baku and Washington across multiple sectors.
Aliyev also highlighted President Trump’s significant contribution to advancing peace efforts between Armenia and Azerbaijan during talks held in Washington on August 8 of last year.
The Azerbaijani president also touched upon the steps taken to normalize Armenian-Azerbaijani relations.
"Noting that peace has already been established in the region, the Azerbaijani president informed that this is also manifested in the establishment of trade relations between the two countries. In this regard, he singled out the export of oil products from Azerbaijan to Armenia, as well as the delivery of grain imported to Armenia through the territory of Azerbaijan," the Azerbaijani press statement reads.
The parties also touched upon the TRIPP project.
The Azerbaijani side noted that the meeting addressed the role of the Board of Peace, chaired by Trump, in promoting Middle East peace and resolving global conflicts.
Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan and Aliyev today signed the Board of Peace founding charter.
