Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan today met with a delegation led by Iranian Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Akbar Ahmadian and discussed relations between their two countries.
Pashinyan, according to his office, considered it symbolic that Ahmadian is the first high-ranking foreign official to visit Armenia in the new year and added that this emphasizes the importance and deep nature of Armenia-Iran relations.
Ahmadian thanked Pashinyan for his reception and conveyed the warm greetings of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Ahmadian emphasized that the rich civilizational past between Armenia and Iran and the warm contacts between the two peoples give confidence that mutually beneficial cooperation will continue to strengthen and deepen.
The two officials said new opportunities for cooperation exist including in technology, industry, energy, agriculture, infrastructure, road construction and other areas.
The development of cooperation with Iran in the construction of Armenia's North-South highway was emphasized. The parties expressed confidence that the construction of the highway will also give a new impetus to the increase in bilateral trade turnover and cargo transportation volumes.
In the context of unblocking regional transport routes, reference was made to the Armenian government's Crossroads of Peace project. Ahmadian noted that Iran supports the implementation of the above-mentioned project based on the principles enshrined in it.
