A group calling itself the Political Prisoners’ Civic Organization issued a statement today condemning a recent court verdict sentencing Armenian National Congress (HAK) activists to jail terms of 2-6 years.

The four activists are Tigran Arakelyan, Artak Karapetyan, Sargis Gevorgyan and Davit Kiramijyan.

The organization calls on the government to stop its policy of arresting and imprisoning individuals based on their political leanings and urges former political prisoners and their families to come out in support of the four HAK activists.
