Armen Mirzoyan

U.S. Assistant State Secretary to Travel to Azerbaijan, Romania

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James C. O’Brien will travel to Baku and Bucharest and Tulcea (Romania) December 6-8.

While in Baku, O’Brien will meet with Azerbaijani officials on strengthening bilateral relations and supporting the peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

In Romania, O’Brien will participate in a summit on grain exports alongside high-level officials from Romania, Ukraine, Moldova, and the European Commission, and will discuss issues of mutual interest.

Baku has accused O’Brien of making pro-Armenian statements.

O'Brien has announced that the U.S. has suspended military and other support to Azerbaijan and canceled several high-level visits, thus signaling to Baku that bilateral relations will not be settled until progress is made in negotiations with Armenia.
