Collection of War Dead Impossible Due to Continued Azerbaijani Military Operations
The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijani allegation that Armenian forces fired on a well-marked ambulance, bearing a white flag, that was gathering the bodies of war dead in an area controlled by the Azerbaijani military.
Ministry spokesperson Shushan Stepanyan also denied Azerbaijani charges that Armenian forces launched an offensive in the direction of Hadrut and Jabrayil in southeastern Artsakh.
A joint statement issued by the Foreign Ministers on October 10 states that the exchange of bodies of other prisoners of war and prisoners of war between Artsakh and Azerbaijan must be mediated by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in accordance with the its criteria, which is not currently the case due to ongoing hostilities.
"We consider the Azerbaijani accusations as a crude provocation, seeking to gain the attention of interested parties," Stepanyan said.
