Armenian MPs Report Back After Fact Finding Mission to Latakia
Armenian MPs Levon Martirosyan, Edmon Maroukyan, Tevan Poghosyan, Arman Sahakyan and Samvel Farmanyan traveled to the Syrian town of Latakia on March 27 and 28 on a fact finding mission to gauge the needs of Armenians who fled there from Kesab.
The MPs had meetings with Syrian government and religious leaders and told local Armenians that the government of Armenia stands with them in their time of need.
The group also met with Catholicos Aram I of the Great House of Cilicia and Armenian members of the Lebanese Parliament and discussed the situation now faced by Syrian-Armenians.
On their return to Armenia, the MPs presented their findings to President Sargsyan, the parliament and government officials. Their report also contains a number of proposals regarding the provision of vital material and non-material assistance to Kesab Armenians.
While this was an official mission to Syria, all travel related expenses were paid by Arman Sahakyan, one of the MPs who made the trip.
