Moldova: General Resigns In Scandal

Major general Igor Bodorin, head of the Moldovan Protection and Guard State Service, abruptly resigned today a day after Moldovan journalists highlighted missing data in connection with his wealth statement. According to the report, Bodorin’s wealth statement failed to disclose the names and addresses of companies his family members retain ownership shares.

Last year, OCCRP published an article detailing how Paul Petre Țârdea, a convicted Romanian businessman, teamed up with members of Bodorin’s family to start “Euro Bingo,” a televised gameshow broadcast in Moldova. Țârdea previously launched two other similar game shows in Romania that went bankrupt before paying out prizes. After OCCRP published its findings, the Euro Bingo deal in Moldova was cancelled.
