Newly elected Gyumri Mayor Samvel Balasanyan continues to make unannounced visits to homeless families that have appeared in videos shot by the Shirak Center, a non-profit NGO which works towards resolving a host of immediate social and political problems in the provinces of Armenian.

Mayor Balasanyan has said that he wishes to obtain a closer understanding of the problems faced by families living in temporary shelters that aren’t included in any government program for the allocation of new housing.

Last week, the mayor visited a large family now renting a small apartment on the outskirts of Gyumri and presented them with the keys to a new house in the Moush-2 neighborhood.

The cash had been gifted by an Armenian now residing in the United States.

The accompanying video shows Mayor Balasanyan visiting another family living in a temporary trailer and presenting them with financial assistance provided by his family’s Balasanyan Foundation to renovate the trailer and to buy wood fuel.
