Pashinyan Hosts Spain's Queen Sofía in Yerevan Ahead of Global Human Development Awards

YEREVAN — Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received Her Majesty Queen Sofía of Spain at the government headquarters today, highlighting a year of rapidly accelerating diplomatic ties between Yerevan and Madrid.

The high-profile visit marks the second time this year that Armenia has hosted a top dignitary from Spain, following an official visit by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez earlier this year. Welcoming the Queen Consort, Pashinyan emphasized that the back-to-back visits are a testament to the robust expansion of bilateral relations. He noted that the ongoing positive momentum presents a strategic opportunity to further elevate the political dialogue between the two nations.

Queen Sofía expressed her gratitude for the warm hospitality, stating she was deeply impressed by both the reception and the country itself. The primary objective of her three-day visit to Yerevan is her scheduled participation in the prestigious Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development awarding ceremony. Managed by the Arab Gulf Programme for Development (AGFUND), the million-dollar global prize recognizes pioneering human development projects that alleviate poverty and empower vulnerable groups.

In addition to the gala, Queen Sofia’s itinerary includes tours of Armenia’s famous historical and cultural heritage sites. She is also slated to attend several cultural functions dedicated to celebrating and strengthening the friendly ties between Spain and Armenia.

The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on prospective areas of cooperation, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to deepening the multifaceted relationship between the two countries.
