Catholicos Aram I Honors Cyprus President in Nicosia
Catholicos Aram I bestowed the prestigious Prince of Cilicia insignia to the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, during a ceremony at the presidential palace in Nicosia.
In his address, Catholicos Aram I emphasized that in a world rife with wars and confrontations—especially in the Middle East—Cyprus has consistently maintained a balanced position, fostering dialogue and building bridges between the opposing sides.
The church leader noted Cyprus’s peace-making role in conflicts involving Israel, Lebanon, and Iran. The Catholicos also reflected on the enduring partnership between the Armenian and Cypriot peoples and churches, rooted in shared values and an unwavering commitment to justice and human rights.
Christodoulides thanked Catholicos Aram I for this distinguished honor. He reflected on his enduring respect for Armenia and the Armenian people, which he has demonstrated throughout his public service.
The Cypriot president recalled the deep historical ties between the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia and Cyprus. He also spoke of his profound admiration for Lebanon and his ongoing efforts to promote mutual understanding and peace throughout Lebanon and the wider region.
