Matenadaran Gifted 4,000-Year-Old Akkadian Clay Tablet
A 4,000-year-old artifact has been donated to the Matenadaran (the Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts) in Yerevan, adding an important piece of ancient Near Eastern history to Armenia’s renowned collection of manuscripts and historical treasures.
Prince Dani Badawi of the Badawi royal dynasty visited the Matenadaran with Armenia’s Ambassador to the United States, Narek Mkrtchyan.
During the visit, Prince Badawi donated an Akkadian contract inscribed on a clay tablet dating to 1750–1712 BC. Akkadian was one of the earliest major written languages.
(The "Badawi royal dynasty" primarily refers to the historical lineage of the Tkhuma Tribe, one of the five semi-independent Assyrian tribes from the Hakkari mountainous region of Upper Mesopotamia.)
