Pashinyan Says Armenia Must Finance Trump’s “Board of Peace”

Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan today announced that Armenia, as a founding member of U.S. President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace, should make voluntary financial contributions to the organization.

Pashinyan joined the Board of Peace in January 2026, an initiative meant to oversee Gaza reconstruction and broader regional stability.

The initiative has faced criticism for lacking UN institutional backing, with some observers viewing it as a personal, transaction-based project of the U.S. leadership.

After the Armenian government approved a  bill to ratify the Board of Peace Charter—signed by Pashinyan in Davos on January 22—the prime minister clarified there are no mandatory obligations for Armenia but affirmed the country’s intention to participate. The bill will now go to the Armenian parliament.

Pashinyan refused to say how much Armenia would pay, merely noting any payments must reflect the country’s financial resources.

Countries that wish to be permanent members of the Board must pay US$1 billion into a fund controlled by Trump; otherwise, each country serves a three-year term which may be renewed at his discretion.

Pashinyan has said that Armenia will not pay the $1 billion.
