Pashinyan Travels to Yazidi Village for New Year's Celebration

Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan and other top government official travelled to the Armavir village of Aknalitch to  attend the Yazidi community's New Year celebration.

Aknalich village is the site of the only Yazidi temple in Armenia. A new temple, known as Quba Mêrê Dîwanê (All Will Come Together), opened in September 2019. It is the world's largest Yazidi Temple

Yazidis form the largest ethnic minority in Armenia. According to the 2022 census, around 31,079 Yazidis live in Armenia.

While Yazidis were counted as Kurds in censuses for much of the Soviet period, they are currently recognized as a separate ethnic group in Armenia.

Pashinyan, according to his office, congratulated the Yezidi community on the holiday and stressed that all citizens of Armenia, regardless of religious and cultural differences, are equally protected under the country's constitution.

“All of our passports look the same, have the same image, and all of our passports give us the same rights and responsibilities in the Republic of Armenia,” Pashinyan is quoted as saying.
