Catholicos Aram I and EEAS Delegation Meet in Antelias
On Thursday, February 5, 2026, Catholicos Aram I welcomed Mr. Constantinos Alexandris, the Religion and Diplomacy Advisor at the European External Action Service (EEAS), at the Catholicosate of the Holy See of Cilicia in Antelias, Lebanon.
Mr. Alexandris was accompanied by Her Excellency Despina Koukoulopoulou, Ambassador of Greece to Lebanon.
This visit formed an important part of Mr. Alexandris’s high-level mission to the Middle East, which centered on integrating religious perspectives into European foreign policy. The meeting provided an opportunity for in-depth dialogue on the evolving role of faith in contemporary global governance and the complex interplay between religion and politics.
During the meeting, Catholicos Aram I shared his perspectives on interreligious cooperation and cautioned against making broad generalizations. He highlighted the importance of tailoring diplomacy to honor the specific socio-political context of each nation, and he emphasized the need to recognize the distinctive roles of the state, the church, and civil society.
