A political movement in Armenia, “I'm Against Everyone”,  today announced it will register as a political party and participate in the June parliamentary election.

Movement representatives, at a press conference, claimed 473 people have joined the group that was formed ten days ago.

They said that if the party wins, they will hold special parliamentary elections one hundred days after assuming power under a revised set of electoral rules to make the national assembly more representative.

One change would be to lower the passing threshold for political parties and alliances.

Under the current legislation, parties must receive at least 4% of the votes of those participating in the elections to gain seats in parliament. In the case of alliances, this threshold is 6%.

Another change would abolish the provision of a stable majority in Armenia’s Electoral Code.

If they come to power, the members of the movement promise to add an “I am against everyone” ballot during the special elections. Movement representative  Hovsep Ghazaryan says this will force politicians to be more accountable to the public and work more efficiently. Otherwise, voters can go and vote against everyone.
