Pashinyan Marks October 1999 Attack on Parliament
Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan today marked the 26th anniversary of the 1999 attack on the country’s National Assembly that killed eight government officials by laying flowers at a memorial on the grounds of the parliament.
Pashinyan, flanked by Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan and Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan, paid their respects to those killed during the attack that rocked the country and sparked numerous conspiracy theories as to the real organizers of the attack.
On October 27, 1999, five armed men broke into the National Assembly and opened fire, killing Armenian PM Vazgen Sargsyan and National Assembly Speaker Karen Demirchyan and injuring more than thirty people.
