Architects Demand Halt to 1915 Genocide Memorial Restoration
All 172 members of Armenia’s Chamber of Architects of Armenia issued a statement today demanding an immediate halt to the current restoration work on the Armenian Genocide Memorial in Yerevan and the creation of a group of specialists to draft a revised plan to restore the monument.
“We, the architects, express our deep professional concern regarding the current restoration of the Armenian Genocide Memorial that is being carried out with incorrect architectural and engineering design solutions. As a result, the engineering and structural stability of the monument is being undermined, and the author’s image and expressiveness are being lost,” the statement reads.
The Armenian Genocide Memorial (Tzitzernakaberd) is undergoing a large-scale restoration project primarily focused on fixing decades of water damage and structural issues.
Despite assurances that the memorial's appearance will be preserved, the project has faced controversy regarding its organization, the methods used, and perceived political undertones.
