Pashinyan Touts TRIPP Benefits at CIS Meeting

Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan, during a speech today in Dushanbe (Tajikistan) at a meeting of post-Soviet state leaders, claimed that the Trump Road for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) will strengthen economic ties between their nations and increase the efficiency of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and the leaders of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Belarus are in Dushanbe for the conclave.

“The TRIPP project opens up new export and import opportunities for the CIS countries as well,” Pashinyan told attendees.

Pashinyan said that while peace has been established between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the two nations still need to establish mutual trade, economic, political, cultural ties, resolve humanitarian issues.

“This is not an easy task, given the long history of hostility. However, the established peace gives us confidence that these issues will be gradually resolved,” he said, thanking his CIS partners for their support during the process.

Draft agendas at the CIS meeting suggest the adoption of a military-cooperation concept through 2030, counterterrorism and border security strategies, efforts to fight transnational crime, and discussions on a “CIS Plus” format that would allow third-party countries and international organizations to participate in selected CIS events.
