Starbucks Considers Armenia Entry
As if there aren’t enough places in Yerevan to get a cup of coffee, or some enhanced version your regular dose of “Morning Joe”, global giant Starbucks says it’s exploring the possibility of opening stores in Armenia.
Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan met today in Yerevan with Starbucks reps Figen Ilgaz (VP of Starbucks-Alshaya Group Eurasia) and Hanzadeh Kughi (Director of Real Estate) to explore such a possibility.
Papoyan, according to his office, said attracting high-quality international investment is a priority for Armenia, arguing that Starbucks stores in the country would attract more tourists. He didn’t elaborate as to how.
Starbucks-Alshaya Group Eurasia is a partnership between Starbucks and the Alshaya Group to operate Starbucks locations across the Eurasia region. This franchise covers countries in the Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia, and Türkiye.
Starbucks, with more than forty thousand outlets in eighty-six countries, offers a franchising program, different from the licensing program, in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) markets.
Starbucks has fought and strongly opposed unionization of its workforce for decades.
