U.S. CBP Team in Armenia to Review Border Security Capacity
A team from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency is in Armenia to work with local border guards to conduct a capacity assessment and identify areas for improvement.
The U.S. Embassy in Armenia reports the “Gap/Opportunity Analysis Process” review will help strengthen border security by identifying areas requiring strategic investment.
CBP is the largest federal law enforcement agency of the United States Department of Homeland Security.
The embassy reports the review of Armenia’s border security capacities is the first step towards the implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that Armenia and the U.S. signed on August 8 regarding Armenia’s Crossroads of Peace project and enhancing Armenia’s infrastructure and border security.
The MOU, with a one-year duration, envisages cooperation in a number of areas including but not limited to the following:
- Enhancing Armenia’s border security through training, U.S. government resources, and best practices from U.S. Department of Homeland Security Customs and Border Protection.
- Increasing investment on cyber defense operations; and
- Promoting investment to modernize Armenia’s infrastructure as well as the border security sector.
