Armenia's "Hayastan" Faction Condemns Trump-Brokered Peace Deal
Armenia’s opposition Hayastan parliamentary faction has condemned the August 8 Trump-brokered peace deal, arguing it contains “new existential threats for Armenia and its people.”
The faction, with twenty-eight seats in the 127-member parliament, says the deal “has nothing to do with real peace.”
The faction represents the Hayastan Alliance, led by former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan.
Hayastan describes the deal as legitimizing the ethnic cleansing and genocidal policy carried out by Azerbaijan against the Armenians of Artsakh and the detention of former Artsakh officials.
It says the deal, “provides Azerbaijan an unhindered connection-corridor in the sovereign territory of Armenia, creating additional conditions for restrictions on Armenia's sovereignty and continuing aggression.”
Hayastan says Nikol Pashinyan is trying to mislead the Armenian people with a false peace narrative that aims to ensure the continuation of his regime.
