
Prime Minister Receives EU High Representative Kaya Kalas
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan receives the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas.
During the meeting, issues related to the agenda of Armenia-European Union relations, strengthening democratic institutions, the rule of law and opportunities for deepening cooperation in governance reforms were discussed.
Prime Minister Pashinyan thanked the EU for its continuous support to Armenia and emphasized the commitment of the Armenian Government to strengthening democracy and peace.
The EU High Representative noted that Armenia and the European Union have never been closer to each other than they are now. According to her, the European Union is ready to further deepen the partnership in all directions.
Kaja Kallas highlighted the Armenia-EU-US trilateral statement signed in Brussels on April 5, 2024, as an important milestone in strengthening strategic cooperation between Armenia and its European and Western partners. According to her, it has served as the basis for a new level of political dialogue.
Kallas highly appreciated the commitment of the Armenian Government to democratic reforms, considering them of vital importance not only within the country, but also as a basis for external partnerships. She emphasized that these values must be protected, especially in the face of hybrid threats, disinformation and attempts to interfere in the country's internal affairs. Kaja Kallas emphasized that the EU is ready to stand by Armenia, supporting the country's resilience.
During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on the visa liberalization process. Both sides emphasized that significant progress has been recorded in this direction recently.
The interlocutors touched upon the regional situation and the peace process. The EU High Representative noted that Brussels is pleased to note the positive progress recorded during the Armenia-Azerbaijan bilateral negotiations, which can serve as a basis for establishing stability and peace in the region.
