Russian Border Guards Withdrawn from Armenia-Iran Checkpoint
Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan, on Monday, announced that Russian border guards have been withdrawn from the country’s sole border crossing with Iran.
“Starting today, only the Border Guard Troops of the Republic of Armenia will carry out border control at the Agarak border crossing point on the Armenia-Iran state border,” Pashinyan wrote on Facebook.
Russian border guards will remain along Armenia’s border with Turkey and will be joined by their Armenian counterparts.
Russian border guards will no longer be posted at Yerevan’s Zvartnots Airport as of today.
Last March, Armenia officially notified Moscow to remove Russian border guards stationed at Yerevan’s Zvartnots International Airport. They left in August.
