Armenia: Investigative Committee Chairman, Other Top Officials Resign

Armenian Investigative Committee Chairman Argishti Kyaramyan resigned today citing “recent internal re-evaluations of the situation surrounding the operation of the general law enforcement system.”

Kyaramyan assumed the post of chairman in July 2021. He formerly served as Director of Armenia’s National Security Service.

Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan, during last week’s cabinet session, criticized Armenia’s judicial and law-enforcement agencies for failing to end a perceived lack of justice in the country.

Also resigning today were Supreme Judicial Council President Karen Andreasyan,  Anti-Corruption Committee President Sasun Khachatryan, Minister of Internal Affairs Vahe Ghazaryan, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastrutures Gnel Sanosyan, and State Revenue Committee Chairman Rustam Badasyan.

Referring to their resignations, Pashinyan stated that he asked them to step down. "The reasons for making such a request are not personal, but systemic, about which I have spoken publicly," Pashinyan noted.
