Yerevan, Baku Accuse Each Other of Torpedoing Pashinyan-Aliyev Meeting
Baku and Yerevan today accused each other of pulling out of a meeting between Nikol Pashinyan and Ilham Aliyev on the sidelines of the European Political Summit in London.
The Armenian foreign ministry, in a statement, claims Armenia proposed the meeting with Aliyev.
The ministry says the proposal is still valid and that Armenia reaffirms its desire to maintain negotiations with Baku at the “highest level” to reach a peace deal within one month.
The Azerbaijani press, however, quotes Aliyev aide Hikmet Hajiyev as claiming that Armenia refused to meet with Aliyev.
Hajiyev is quoted as saying Yerevan’s decision “is a retreat from prior peace agreements.” The Azerbaijani official claims Great Britain proposed the meeting at the recent Munich Security Conference.
