The UN’s International Court of Justice (ICJ) today continues to review a claim of ethnic cleansing filed by Armenia against Azerbaijan.

Armenia filed the case in 2021, following the 2020 Karabakh war that saw Azerbaijan recapture much of the Republic of Artsakh.

Yerevan accuses Azerbaijan of glorifying racism and permitting hate speech against Armenians and destroying Armenian cultural sites.

Azerbaijan denies these allegations and yesterday called on the ICJ to throw out the case, arguing it doesn’t meet the conditions of the United Nations anti-discrimination treaty on which it is based. Baku also claimed that the ICJ doesn’t have jurisdiction to rule on the issues contained in the complaint.
