Yerevan’s Municipal Council today, by a vote of 32-5, elected Tigran Avinyan as the next mayor of Armenia’s capital.

He was the only mayoral candidate nominated by the council.

The Civil Contract, Republic and Public Voice parties participated in the session of the newly elected municipal council with thirty-seven mandates.

The two opposition factions, National Progress and Mother Armenia did not participate in the council session.

Avinyan had been serving as Yerevan deputy mayor.
