The European Parliament today, by a vote of 491-9, adopted a resolution calling on the European Union to undertake a comprehensive review of its relations with Baku.

The resolution describes the exodus of Armenians from Nagorno Karabakh as “ethnic cleansing” and says the EU must adopt targeted sanctions against Azerbaijani government officials responsible for ceasefire violations and human rights abuses in Nagorno-Karabakh.

In the resolution adopted today, the European Parliament strongly condemns Azerbaijan’s pre-planned and unjustified military attack against Nagorno-Karabakh on September 19 which MEPs say constitutes a gross violation of international law and human rights and a clear infringement of previous attempts to achieve a ceasefire.
