Armenian Security Service Silent on Cocaine Seizure
Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS) has not answered questions posed by Hetq regarding the recent seizure of one ton of cocaine concealed in boxes of fruit imported by an Armenian company from Ecuador via Panama, Italy and Georgia.
The NNS announced the seizure on May 17, one day after a larger amount of cocaine bound for Armenia was seized in Italy.
The NSS said any information on the matter was a pre-trial secret.
The NSS refused to name the company in question, but press rumors cite Mrgeni LLC.
On May 18, State Revenue Committee Chairman Rustam Badasyan admitted in a briefing with journalists that the one ton of cocaine imported to Armenia passed through customs control, indirectly admitting that the drug was not found at the border, but inside the country.
