Kremlin Says New Azerbaijani Checkpoint in Lachin Corridor Creates "Difficult Situation"

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov today said Moscow will continue to work with Baku and Yerevan to see that the provisions of the trilateral agreements that ended the 2020 Karabakh war are implemented.

Commenting on the installation of a checkpoint by Azerbaijan in the Lachin corridor, Peskov noted "the situation is really difficult", and "requires additional efforts and understanding on the part of Yerevan and Baku.

Peskov said "there is no alternative to the implementation" of the trilateral agreements between the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia.

"Russia continues its mediation efforts, mainly efforts to implement all the provisions of the trilateral documents that were signed two years earlier. Russia will continue to work on this together with Yerevan and Baku.

Earlier, the Russian diplomatic mission called on Azerbaijan and Armenia to immediately return to existing agreements and expressed concern about the growing number of ceasefire violations in Karabakh.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also warned "external Western players" against attempts to stir up the situation, including "by means of a smear campaign against Russia".
