Armenian Foreign Minister Tells U.S. Official Threat of Azerbaijani "Provocations" Remains High

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried spoke by telephone today and discussed South Caucasus regional security and stability issues.

The two, according to Mirzoyan’s office, focused on the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Donfried said the U.S. is ready to support the peace process in the South Caucasus

Border security and the border delimitation process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the unblocking of transport infrastructures in the region, were also discussed.

Mirzoyan noted that the security situation in the region is fragile, and the chance of new provocations by Azerbaijan remains high.
