Pashinyan, Swedish MP Arin Karapet Discuss Armenia-Diaspora Relatios
Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan and Swedish Parliament MP Arin Karapet met today in Yerevan and discussed steps to strengthen ties between the legislatures of the two countries.
Karapet, who chairs the Swedish-Armenian Friendship Group, travelled to Armenia to attend last week’s Global Armenian Summit.
Pashinyan, according to his office, welcomed Karapet to Armenia and stressed the importance of developing Armenian-Swedish government relations in the economic sector and to spur Armenia’s democratic agenda.
They also discussed the need to strengthen Armenia-diaspora ties and prospects to make the World Armenian Summit an annual event.
Karapet, born in Sweden to Armenian parents, is a member of that country’s liberal-conservative Moderate Party (Swedish: Moderata samlingspartiet).
He describes himself as Swedish-Armenian and has spoken out in favor of the recognition of the 1915-1923 genocide of Armenians and Assyrians. Elected in 2018, he is the second Armenian to serve in the Swedish Riksdag.
