U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Says Karabakh Status Not Resolved

US Ambassador to Armenia Lynne Tracy today, according to an Armenian government press release, believes that the issue of the status of Nagorno Karabakh has not been resolved and that this process should be carried out under the mandate of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.

Tracy, according to the press release, meet today with Armenian Deputy PM Hambardzum Matosyan, agreeing with him on the Karabakh issue.

Matosyan praised the U.S. for the assistance it’s provided Armenia over the past thirty years aimed at bolstering a more prosperous and democratic society.

She is flogging a dead horse here. No doubt the separatists in their hopeless desperation hang on her every word but those who matter are not interested at all in reviving the Minsk group that has proved to be totally ineffectual. Those involved have their self interest to protect as why wouldn't the Minsk Group want a resumption of talks,. It is a nice sinecure for the participants where they get to live the high life, travel and entertain without the slightest expectation that they will achieve anything at all. After all, they failed to achieve a single thing in nearly 30 years so why should now be any different? Today USA is largely uninterested despite the ambassadors statement, France is very biased towards Armenia and Russia just wants to keep their boots on the ground in Karabakh by maintaining the status quo. Hardly an inspiring or credible group for peacemaking. Azerbaijan says they have solved the issue and by conclusively defeating Armenia they largely have as Karabakh has zero chance of staging a successful military defence and neither does Armenia without Russian help. This means that when the Russians leave in 2025 which they must without Azerbaijan agreement (no chance of that), the Armenian separatists will have to leave with them if they are not willing to become Azerbaijan citizens. So far they seem to be living in a fantasy world in which they expect the world to come to their aid but it is not going to happen so there is further heartbreak in store for the separatists.. One hopes they will face reality and make plans for their peoples orderly emigration or integration into Azerbaijan while there is still time
