Aliyev Says Opening of Transport Links with Armenia Has Partially Begun
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said today that the process of opening transport links with Armenia has partially begun.
Aliyev, during a meeting with newly appointed EU representative Peter Michalko, said that Azerbaijan wants to turn the page and improve relations with its neighbor, Armenia, this according to RIA Novosti.
"We are ready to start negotiations on a peace agreement, demarcation, opening of communications. That process has partially started. But I think that if the European Union actively participates, and I see that there is such a desire, it can help us in different areas. In general, the situation in the South Caucasus may take on a completely new dimensions, which has not been the case for 30 years. It can be an important factor for stability, predictability and peace," Aliyev was quoted as saying.
Today, for the first time since 2014, an Azerbaijani plane passed through the airspace of Armenia on a flight from Baku to Nakhijevan.
