Pashinyan, European Council President Meet in Brussels
Acting Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, in Brussels on a working visit, today met with European Council President Charles Michel and the two discussed Armenia-EU cooperation and the programs envisaged within the framework of the Comprehensive and Extended Partnership Agreement that came into force on March 1 of this year.
Pashinyan, according to a statement released by his office, stressed that Armenia attaches great importance to active cooperation within the framework of the "roadmap" of the agreement, which will contribute to the implementation of democratic values, protection of human rights, fight against corruption, rule of law, as well as public administration, including justice.
Michel stressed the EU's readiness to further deepen and expand the partnership in fulfilling the priorities of the Armenian government.
Turning to the ongoing stand-off along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, Pashinyan reiterated his demand that all Azerbaijani troops leave Armenian territory and called on the international community to respond adequately to Azerbaijan's provocative actions and to take steps to ensure the return of Armenian prisoners of war.
He applauded a resolution adopted by the European Parliament urging Azerbaijan to release all Armenian prisoners of war immediately and without preconditions.
Michel welcomed Armenia’s stance to resolve the issue by diplomatic means and expressed the EU’s readiness to support that process.
